The Meath Primary Schools Cross
Country was held last Friday at Fairyhouse Racecourse. We had a great turnout
from the local Schools and our club athletes were prominent in both individual
and team events on the day. Laura Kelly representing St. Pauls had a great run
finishing 2nd in the girls 1st & 2nd class
event, her club mate Niamh Murray impressed also finishing in 3rd position.
St. Pauls NS finished 2nd and Ratoath NS took the bronze in the team
event. In the boys 1st &
2nd class race, new club member Christopher Dunne had a great race
to take gold for Ratoath NS, he was followed in by Cian Crawford in 4th
and Mark Wallace 11th, Ratoath NS also won the boys team event.
In the girls 3rd &
4th class race we had a 1,2 3 for the Club with Aoife Rutherford and
Aimee Doherty 1st and 2nd for St. Paul's NS and Sophie Quinn
3rd for St. Andrew’s NS Curragha. Curragha won gold
in the team event, with St. Pauls NS 2nd and Rathbeggan NS 3rd.
In the boys event Tom Kilgannon had
another good run finishing 2nd for Ratoath NS and he led his team to
2nd place in the team competition. Fionn Drummond Rathbeggan NS
finished 17th.
In the 5th & 6th
class event, Karen Hayes finished 3rd for Ratoath NS, with club mates
Ivie Okome, Rachel McPartlin and Maria
Rogers finishing in 22nd,26th
and 33rd which was good enough to take the bronze in the team event. Lili and Sophie O' Connor finished 10th and 11th and their Trim School finished 2nd in the team event.
Matthew Buckley who is more accustomed to the shorter distances had a terrific
run to win the boys event for St. Paul’s NS.
