Double All Ireland Gold for Eamon Wallace

Eamon Wallace completed a terrific double last Saturday in Tullamore winning the boys U 19 200m, adding this title to his 100m National title that he won two weeks ago. In very windy conditions Eamon ran a time of 22.5s winning the race comfortably. This rounds off an excellent season for Eamon and we wish him the best of luck in his Athletics scholarship application to DCU and leaving Cert results which will be out in August. Abraham Zaidan just missed out on making the 200m final, running a time of 24.3s, which was outside his seasons best. Abraham has made significant progress this year performing well ahead of his targets.

We had no luck with the Inter club and County relays, the boys U19 4 x 100m team consisting of Eamon Wallace, Brian O’ Connor, Abraham Zaidan and Joey Wallace finished 5th in a time of 46.5, and the 4 x 400m team consisting of Brian O’ Connor, Tom Gannon, Eamon Wallace and Abraham Zaidan finished 4th in a time of 3:48.5. The U19 Boys 4 x 100m County relay team consisting of Niall Flanagan- Cushinstown, Joey Wallace, Eamon Wallace & Abraham Zaidan had a real chance of a medal, but were unfortunately disqualified for a zone infringement.

National Juvenile Track & Field Championships U13-U19

Congratulations to Eamon Wallace who won another National Title, winning the boys U19 100m in Tullamore on Saturday. Although still not fully recovered from his foot injury he was able to hold off the competition and won his race comfortably in a time of 11.3s into a head wind of +2. Abraham Zaidian was disappointed not to make the final; he ran below his best with a time of 12.2s in the heats. Joey Wallace competing in the All Ireland’s after a long break was very unfortunate being disqualified for a false start in boys U18 100m. Best of luck to Eamon and Abraham, who will be competing again in the National U19 200m on the 28th of July.

National Senior Championships

The National Senior Championships were held in Morton Stadium last Saturday and Sunday. For the first time in a long number of years Ratoath had athletes competing in both individual and team events. Eamon Wallace while not at full strength due to a foot injury just missed out on making the Senior final in the 100 and 200m, Abraham Zaidan set a new pb in the 200m in a time of 23.88, which is well ahead of his target for this year.  The senior men’s 4 x 100m relay team consisting of Peter Doherty, Eamon Wallace, Joey Wallace and Abraham Zaidan finished just outside the medals in 4th position in a time of 45.6s, while the 4 x400m team consisting of Neil Finnegan, Eamon Wallace, Peter Doherty and Abraham Zaidan finished 6th setting a new club record of 3:44.57s in the process. Best of luck to Eamon, Joey and Abraham who will be competing this weekend in the National U18 & U19 100m finals in Tullamore.

Reminder Training Still on on Tues evenings.

Hi All,
Just a quick reminder that training is still continuing for during July. While we have the warm wet weather instead of the cold wet weather :).
For the U9's and older we'll be concentrating on good warmup routine adding some body weight conditioning exercises eg press ups, squats, planks etc and finishing with some steady running to begin base building for the cross country season in the winter. We might even be encouraging some mam's and dad's to do a little training during the week with their young charges....
See you on Tuesday

Recent races

Our Fit4Life members have been busy recently! On Saturday June 30th a group of us took part in the Irish Runner 5 mile (8k) race in Phoenix Park. It was raining on and off and a bit windy, but there was a real buzz and it was well organized. Over 4,500 runners, joggers and walkers took part. Here's some photos of our team in action:

Also, last night (Wednesday 4th) more of us took part in the 25th Annual South O'Hanlon 5k road race. I had run it last year in the *pouring* rain, but this year the conditions were just perfect! It was about 18 degrees, blue sky and a slight breeze. Having done the race last year, I told the others that there were only two small hills...I think they ran faster so they could give out to me at the finish line!! It wasn't as hilly as the Phoenix Park though.

The rest of the photos are courtesy of RacePix:

It was so sunny, we all ran in our shades. Check out the new club t-shirts too!
If you're interested in joining, or if you're a member and want a club t-shirt, get in touch. Contact details on the website here.
