Thursday Night Training- 7:30

The 7:30 training session will go ahead tonight, again please bring spikes and runners in case we have to go on the road.

VO2 Testing

Philip Marron recently undertook a VO2 max test using a treadmill in Tallaght Sports Centre. The testing involved analysing his specific VO2 and determining at what heart rate his body crossed  the threshold of aerobic and anaerobic intensity. Once this was measured, Philip's training workout zones could be calculated much more accurately. The objective of all this is to fine tune his training to ensure he peaks for target competitions. Using a heart monitor will enable him to be certain he is training in the correct workout zone and not just be relying on how he "feels " on any given day. Well worth considering having this done irrespective of what standard you are competing at.

Update on Fones4Life club appeal

A big thank you to Martina Cahill who participated in our C25k programme early in 2014, for a massive donation of mobile phones to our fones4life club appeal. We now have a total of 190 mobiles donated - only 160 more needed to hit our target of 350. Well done to everyone who has contributed so far but we are sure there are loads more old phones out there so keep them rolling in over the Christmas and the New Year.

All Ireland Juvenile Uneven age Championships

The uneven age All Ireland juvenile x-country championships were held in Santry Demesne on Dec 7th. While the rain held off it was a bitterly cold day  and underfoot conditions were testing for the athletes.

Our u 11 girls have been running great all season and they all delivered top class performances once again. Aimee Doherty had her best race of the season when finishing a brilliant 13th overall and was closely followed by Sophie Quinn in 28th. Aimee and Sophie were well supported by Amelia Campbell (71st), Eabha Toole (101st) and Molly Keane and the club team were 5th. Laura kelly had to withdraw due to illness but Laura will be back better than ever before she knows it.

We had four athletes in the boys u 11 and they all acquitted themselves well with Fionn Drummond 85th, Eoin Kane 102nd, Kyle Witter 112th and Harry O Connor 133rd. Karen Hayes was another who gave it everything in the Meath singlet and had a ding dong battle with her cousin right through the girls u 15 race before finishing 74th.

Philip Marron rounded off a great AAI cross country season with another fine run in the u 17 boys when placing 19th with his training partner Ciaran Crowther (Ashbourne a/c) tracking him all through the race to finish 33rd and both helped Meath secure the silver medals in the county team championships only losing out to Dublin by 4 points.

Deirdre Healy's season has been badly affected by a niggling calf injury but in her first race for nearly six months she delivered a top drawer run when taking third in the girls u 19. Afterwards she reported no ill effects and was already looking forward to the schools cross country season. It was great to see her back in full flight especially after all the hard strength and conditioning work she has done to get back for these championships.

Wednesday the 26th of November the annual Meath primary schools Cumann na mBunscol cross country competition was held at Bellewstown race course.
It was very well organised considering the large amount of participants; over 160 children in each race. The competition was very high this year with many Meath/Leinster competitors taking part.

Next to come in was Rathbeggan’s Abby McHugh (32nd) and Sophie Crowe (35th) both running steady and earning valuable point for their schools.

Fionn Drummond with 100mtr to go took off with determination to win the U11 Medium schools race for Rathbeggan NS with a 15mtrs lead.
Tom Kilgannon putting in a strong race with a very comfortable win in the U11 Large schools with Oisín Kelly not too far behind in 4th position and also Stephen Kiernan (29th) putting in a great effort all running for for Ratoath SNS

Next up was the girls U13 Medium schools and Orla Hayes was competing for Rathbeggan NS Orla did very well to come in 10th in a strong field.

And last but not least was the U13 boys Large schools race we saw Darragh Shanley (39th), Eoghan Kavanagh, and Raymond Walsh all preforming very well for Ratoath S.N.S.
