Leinster Even Ages Cross Country Championships Report

The Leinster even ages cross country were held yesterday in Dunboyne, we had 10 athletes competing in the Leinster events and a further 11 athletes competing in the U10 open race hosted by Dunboyne AC. The weather conditions were tough with the worst of the weather being experienced by the older age groups in the afternoon. The under 10 open race proved to be a really competitive event with over 80 athletes in both the girls and boys races, the girls team consisting of Sophie Quinn, Laura Kelly, Ava Fay, Matilda Ruhan, Aoife Casey, Molly Keane, and Hannah Bailey ran a great race finishing 2nd in the team even. The boys team of Kyle Witter, Fionn Drummond, Harry O’ Connor and Mark Wallace finished 5th in the team event, Kyle Witter having a great run finishing 15th.
We only had 2 girls in the U12 event, Lili O’ Conor and Saoirse O’Kane ran a good race, finishing 61st and 62nd respectively out of a field of 138. Tom Kilgannon had a good run also, running up an age group finishing 45th in the boys event.
Karen Hayes was our sole competitor in the girls U14 event, again Karen was running up an age and found the going tough but finished strongly. Darragh Casey, Fergal Kilgannon and Harry Bailey all ran well in the boys U14 event.
The best performances of the day came in the boys U16 and girls U18 events. Alex Hunter led home the Ratoath team to 3rd in the Club team event, Alex finishing 9th with Philip 10th, Peter Kilgannon 16th and Brian Kiernan 39th. The boys also secured the bonus of a gold medal in the Counties event with Alex, Philip and Peter all scoring as part of the Meath team. They can now look forward to the All Ireland which will be held in Santry on the 17th of November. Well done also to Ciaran Crowther who finished 21st.
Deirdre Healy continued on her winning ways with a great win in the Girls U18 4000m, Deirdre looked comfortable all the way and eased to victory in a time of 15:59. Deride has also secured qualification for the All Ireland next month and We wish her and the u16 lads the best of luck. Thanks to Dunboyne AC who again hosted a great event.
The Leinster uneven ages championships will be held in Adamstown, Wexford on November 10th, all qualifying athletes from the club will be contacted this week.

Emma TV's Elev8 Superstar

Eileen Doherty Sec Meath Community Games was contacted a number of weeks ago through Community Games by Stopwatch TV. They were looking for six young sports stars who were aged over 10 and under 12, high achievers who had competed and were successful at National level to take part in the Elev 8 Superstars competition for TV.

Eileen contacted a number of children from Ratoath and surrounding areas for a screening following the criteria and they were screened by Stopwatch TV.

Emma was the successful candidate and last weekend she and her family traveled to Limerick where the programme was recorded in the University of Limerick.

Following 1.5days of activities which included  kayaking, archery, sky walking, inflatable obstacle courses, zorbing and a forest run, Emma was 3rd overall. This is a great achievement for her and we in Ratoath AC are very proud of her.

The Elev 8 programme will feature this event in a series of 10 programmes and we will let you know when it will be featured on Television.

Meath Uneven Ages Cross Country Report

The Meath uneven ages cross country championships were held yesterday at Fr. Murphy’s Athletic Club, Athboy, we had a great turnout from the club with 54 athletes competing from U9 up to U17. We were blessed with the weather again for the second week in a row and the relatively flat course at Fr. Murphy’s made for some very fast racing. The u9 girls and boys got the club off to a great start with both teams claiming team gold with terrific scores of 18 and 24 points respectively. There were some great individual performances from Sophie Quinn who won the u9 girls 800m in impressive style, with Ava Fay hot on her heels in 3rd place, Laura Kelly 4th and Hannah Bailey 10th. The boys were led home by Cian Crawford taking 2nd, Eoin Kane 3rd, Harry O’ Connor 6th and Sam Carey 13th
The u11 girls were not to be out done, putting in a great team performance with 13 points claiming gold. Aimee Doherty led home the girls in first place with Ella Healy 2nd, Aoife Rutherford 3rd and Lily O’ Connor 7th, Molly Keane also running well in 14th, this all goes well for the Leinster cross country on the 10th of November with all girls qualifying as part of a very strong county and club team. The u11 boys’ team came second with good performances from Tom Kilgannon 5th, Kyle Witter 10th, Matthew Hayes 12th and Nathan O’ Connor 26th

The U13 boys and girls teams also got their hands on medals, with the girls team finishing 2nd and the boys team finishing 1st, Karen Hayes had a strong finish to take an individual bronze medal, with Maria Rogers, Sophie O’ Connor and Rachel Doherty making up the four scoring members of the team. Harry Haskins was first home for the boy’s team in 9th, followed by Fergal Kilgannon 15th, Darragh Casey 17th and Radu Olaru 25th.
Aine O’ Connor was the only u15 girl out for the club and had a good run to finish 4th in a highly competitive field. Alex Hunter had another great battle finishing 2nd, followed by Gareth Doyle, Pierce Butler, Harry Bailey and Cormac Butler, the boys finished 3rd in the team event.
Deirdre Healy made a great come back finishing 1st in the girl’s u17 4000m. The boy’s u17 team also struck gold with good performances from Ciaran McCarty 1st, Philip Marron 3rd and Peter Kilgannon 4th; this is another good club team to watch out for at the forthcoming Leinster Championships.

Thanks to all athletes and parents who attended both days of the Meath Cross Country Championships, We had our best year ever with Team gold in the Girls U9,10,11 & 12, Boys U9,10,13,16 &17, Team silver in the Boys U11 & 12, Girls U13, and Team bronze in the Boys U14 & 15. We also won 6 Individual gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals.
Thanks also to Fr. Murphy’s Ac who put on a great event.
