Leinster Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships

The Leinster uneven ages cross country championships were held yesterday in Dunboyne, it was great to have this competition so close to us this year. On the familiar Cow Park course as it is known locally we had 8 athletes competing from the club. The weather conditions were perfect and the course as usual was heavy in places which made the going difficult for the athletes. Aoife Rutherford was first on the course in the girls U11 1500m, Aoife finished in 62nd place out of 141 competitors and was 6th girl home for Meath which was a good result seeing that she was running up an age. Tom Kilgannon also running up an age had a  good run in the boys u11 1500m finishing 55th out of a 125 strong field and was 8th home for Meath, the boys Meath team were unlucky just finishing outside the medals in 4th. Karen Hayes had another strong run in the girl’s u13 2500m, Karen also running out of her age finished 57th and was 11th home on the Meath team; the Meath team took bronze in this event. Aine O’Connor had another good run finishing 19th in the girl’s u15 3500m and was 3rd home for Meath. Alex Hunter, Philip Marron and Peter Kilgannon had all very impressive runs in the boy’s u15 event and finished 16th, 27th and 30th respectively, and were 5th, 6th and 7th home for Meath who won gold in the County event. Philip in particular had a great run seeing that he is only back after injury. Brian Kiernan was very unfortunate and had to pull up with a calf strain near the finish after having a good race.
Congratulations to all our Athletes who competed yesterday and who have qualified for the All Irelands in December.
