U11 Girls All Ireland success makes club history

The U11 All Ireland 4 x 100m track relays were held last Saturday at Finn Valley Athletic Club, Stranorlar, Co. Donegal. The girls team, of Aimee Doherty, Ella Healy, Emma O’ Connell and Aoife Rutherford enjoyed great success winning the silver medal in a highly competitive field. The girls won their heat easily in a time of 60.69s, and ran even faster in the final with a magnificent time of 59.95s, they were narrowly beaten by the Connaught Champions, Galway City Harriers who won in a time of 59.42s. The Ratoath and Galway girls were well clear of the chasing field with the Ulster Champions Finn Valley finishing third in a time of 61.91s. The girls time of 59.95 seconds was over 2.5 seconds faster than they ran at the Leinster Relay qualifiers back in May.

This was the first time that Ratoath Ac have medalled at a Girls All Ireland Relay Event, and this performance puts the club right up there with the best in the Country.

Great credit must go to the girls who kept their cool on the day and did not put a foot or hand wrong when passing the baton. Credit and thanks also to their parents who made the trip on the Friday night so that they would be well rested for the competition on Saturday.

Meath Inter Club League- Final Night

We had another great night of athletics at the final day of the Meath inter club track and Field league in Navan last Wednesday,  we were leading by 41 points going into the final night so needed to secure 139 points or more on the night to secure first place in division A.

Again our juvenile, senior and master athletes surpassed themselves with an impressive 12 wins, 16nr second place and 3nr third place finishes, and a large number of 4th-8th place finishes also, thus securing a total of 164 points for the club on the night and the division A title.

A big thanks to all athletes and parents who made the effort to compete and make the trip to Navan over the four nights of competition.

New 1500m Womens Club Record

Deirdre Healy broke the clubs senior womens 1500m  record when finishing 3rd in a time of  5 min 3.31 sec at the Dublin Graded track meeting in Tallaght last night (Tues 26 June). This was an improvement of nearly 12 seconds on her opening run of the season after a lengthy layoff due to a persistent injury and indicates Deirdre is rounding into good form for the upcoming national u 17 championships in mid July.

AAI Leinster Track & Field Juvenile Championships

Ratoath A/C had a large group of athletes competing in the Leinster track & field championships in Tullamore over the weekend. Great to report we had a long list of medal winners / PB performances over the 2 days.

Deirdre Healy won her second Leinster track title with ease. She  moved to the front after about 600m of her race and went on to record a very convincing win in the girls u 17 1500m in a time of 5 min 15.28 sec. Ivie Okome was equally impressive when taking bronze in a competitive girls u 13 80m (10.95 sec). Aine Cooney, who has steadily improved this season, was not far behind in 7th. Kristada Cooke followed up on his indoor bronze with another medal in the boys u 13 60m hurdles (10.67sec). He showed all his fighting spirit when he threw himself at the line to snatch third place in a very tight finish. Lara Power bounced back on day 2 after just missing out in the shot to take a great silver in the u 13 high jump while cousins Tom Gannon and Joey Wallace kept the medal haul moving with 2nd and 3rd  in the u 19  400m H and 100m sprint, respectively. The boys u 16 3000m was very tactical early on with an opening 1k of 3 min 22 sec followed by 3 min 18 sec for the second. The final 1 K was a real burn up of 3 min 10 sec with Patrick Shaw from Mullingar  just getting the better of  our own Phhilip Marron. Karen Hayes ran a super PB of 1 min 55.9 sec in the girls u 13 600m which is very close to the club record, while Gareth Doyle jumped really well in the u 15 long jump to make the last 8 and is definitely one for the future. Peter Kilgannon, Rachael Doherty, Amber Roche and Zara Kane were others who performed very well.

Emma Coroner, Ivie Okome and Aine Cooney  combined with Molly From Dunshaughlin A/C to win bronze in the u 13 inter-county relay.
