Ratoath A/C had a large group of athletes competing in the Leinster track & field championships in Tullamore over the weekend. Great to report we had a long list of medal winners / PB performances over the 2 days.
Deirdre Healy won her second Leinster track title with ease. She moved to the front after about 600m of her race and went on to record a very convincing win in the girls u 17 1500m in a time of 5 min 15.28 sec. Ivie Okome was equally impressive when taking bronze in a competitive girls u 13 80m (10.95 sec). Aine Cooney, who has steadily improved this season, was not far behind in 7th. Kristada Cooke followed up on his indoor bronze with another medal in the boys u 13 60m hurdles (10.67sec). He showed all his fighting spirit when he threw himself at the line to snatch third place in a very tight finish. Lara Power bounced back on day 2 after just missing out in the shot to take a great silver in the u 13 high jump while cousins Tom Gannon and Joey Wallace kept the medal haul moving with 2nd and 3rd in the u 19 400m H and 100m sprint, respectively. The boys u 16 3000m was very tactical early on with an opening 1k of 3 min 22 sec followed by 3 min 18 sec for the second. The final 1 K was a real burn up of 3 min 10 sec with Patrick Shaw from Mullingar just getting the better of our own Phhilip Marron. Karen Hayes ran a super PB of 1 min 55.9 sec in the girls u 13 600m which is very close to the club record, while Gareth Doyle jumped really well in the u 15 long jump to make the last 8 and is definitely one for the future. Peter Kilgannon, Rachael Doherty, Amber Roche and Zara Kane were others who performed very well.
Emma Coroner, Ivie Okome and Aine Cooney combined with Molly From Dunshaughlin A/C to win bronze in the u 13 inter-county relay.
