Star of the Sea Cross Country Report

The annual Star of the Sea cross country took place today at Greenanstown, Stamullen. The weather was great and the course was in great shape. We had a great turnout from the club with over 25 athletes competing on the day. Our girl’s teams were particular strong winning bronze in the girl’s u9 event with great individual performances from Caoimhe Fitzsimons 4th and Ciara Coroner 5th. Our u10, 11 and 12 girls’ teams took gold with standout individual performances from Sophie Quinn who was 1st in the girls’ u10 race with Laura Kelly 5th and Niamh Murray 12th.  Aimee Doherty had a strong run to win the girls u11 event, with Elbha Toole 5th, Molly Keane 11th and Aoife Casey 20th. Our u12 girls Ella Healy, Lili O’ Connor and Aoife Rutherford all ran well finishing 3rd, 8th and 10th respectively to take the girls title. Harry O’ Connor had a great run finishing 3rd in the u10 500m leading the boys’ home to bronze in the team event. James Kelly, Fionn Heffernan and Gavin Witter running out of their age were very strong in the u9 boys’ event finishing 7th,10th and 20th.
Well done to all athletes who made the trip today for our first cross country of the season and a reminder that the Meath even ages cross country championships will take place at the same venue this Sunday October 5th.
Thanks to Star of the Sea Ac for another terrific event.

British and Irish Hill Running Championships

Alex Hunter did his club proud yesterday in his first international hill running competition. Alex competed in the u17 event at the British and Irish Hill running championships at Glendalough, Co. Wicklow. Over a very tough 5600m course with a climb of 314m, Alex ran a great race finishing 7th overall and was the first Irish man home in the u17 event, this despite taking a heavy fall on the descent. Our coach Gerry Finnegan was also part of the Irish Coaching and Management team for the event. This we hope will be the first of many international vests for Alex.

We would like to advise you of upcoming road restrictions which will be in place on September 14th, during our annual 5k road race.

These restrictions will be in place from approx. 10:30 to 12:00 on the day.

We would request that houses on the route that have dogs or other pets, keep them inside during this period to save them from being stressed as the runners pass by

There is signage around the course advising of the restrictions

The course starts and finishes at the GAA club and follows the route below

This year we are trying to get as many of the community involved in the event as possible with special team events and prizes for male, female and mixed teams.

The RAC committee would like to thank you in advance for your continued support of our main fundraising event
