2015 International Mountain Running Youth Cup
The 2015 international mountain running youth cup took place in Smolyan, Bulgaria on 27th June. Ireland had teams in both the girls and boys events. Seventeen teams were represented in the boys race. Our own Alex Hunter, despite getting a severe stitch on the second of three circuits, again wore the green singlet with pride as he was second Irishman home in 40th. Competition was red hot and the Italian winner of the event is also the current European cross country ski champion.
Well done Alex. Hopefully there will be many more international vests to come in the years ahead

Tailteann Games 19 June Morton Stadium
The Tailteaan Games were held in Santry today (19th June). Ratoath Community School had two athletes running in the Leinster colours as they competed for the Tailteaan title. With places also up for grabs on the Irish schools team to compete in Galgow in mid July, every event was keenly contested.
Philip Marron continued his unbeaten run in the 1500m steeplechase with another faultless performance over the barriers and took the title in 4 min 31.8 sec which was just a fraction outside his personal best.
Brian Kiernan also caught the eye with his trademark strong finish to get up for third right on the line in 51.5 sec. This is Brian's first season running the 400m and he has made huge progress in what is a very demanding event. Later on in the afternoon, Brian had the satisfaction of anchoring the winning Leinster team in the 4 x 400m relay in a time of 3 min 25 sec. Brian's leg was timed at 50.88 sec
Fingers crossed that both lads get selected on the Irish schools international team

Leinster Team Event
The Leinster team event was held
last Monday in Tullamore, We had 4 teams competing from the club and all teams
came away with medals, Our u9 boys didn’t have much luck on the day but still
managed to finish 3rd, well done to Fionn Heffernan, Gavin
Witter, Charlie O’ Connor and James Kelly. Our u10 girls were in great form and
won their first Leinster title with a terrific all round team effort from Cara
O’ Sullivan, Ciara Coroner, Caoimhe Fitzsimons and Eline Lund. The u11 girls only
missed out on the gold by 1 point with great track and field performances from
Niamh Murray, Sophie Quinn, Laura Kelly, Aishling Strafford and Sophie Green.
The u13 girls also took gold, however a late change to the relay rules and
points allocation after presentation suggested that they finished 2nd, the girls were
already well down the road and were happy to take home their gold medals.
Well done to all athletes and
thanks to parents who gave up their bank holiday Monday for this event.
