Our Half Marathon starts at the entrance to Fairyhouse Race Course then left out onto the flat roads of County Meath showcasing a Fast, Flat & PB focused course for participants while finishing with one lap of Fairyhouse race course and then a sprint finish under the finish line in front of the Iconic Fairyhouse Grandstand.


The course is marked in miles plus  1K - 5K -10K & 15K 
Markers

A lead cyclist will be on this route. 









Ratoath AC Half Marathon Route Overview


Fairyhouse Racecourse will host the Ratoath AC Half Marathon. The races will start and finish at the venue. The car park, Race HQ and toilet facilities will all be accessible within minutes of the start & finish area. Race directions will be sign posted in addition to mile markers and marshals along the route.

Fairyhouse Racecourse – Did you know that the first race meet was held in 1848 and in 1870 the first Irish Grand National Steeplechase was held at this famous venue. 

Race Start: The half marathon will start just inside the secondary entrance which is to the right of the two main entrances to Fairyhouse Race Course. Runners will run out this gate and take a left hand turn onto the Fairyhouse Road (R155) in the direction of Dunboyne.

Mile 1-3: Will see the runners may their way along the R155 and will take the second left. Runners will make their way along this quiet country road and wind their way along the route passing the 1st water station and the Caulstown Christmas Tree Farm on route. 

Mile 3-6: After 3.50 miles runners will take a left turn at the T-Junction and continue along this road as they continue their way towards the village of Kilbride passing Ballintry Stud, runners will approach a T junction and a left turn will take them into the village of Kilbride where a water station will greet the runners at Sweeney’s Pub!

Sweeneys Pub - was one of several locations in Meath used in RTE’s first rural drama series ‘The Riordans’ which ran from 1965-1979 and starred Gabriel Byrne 

Mile 6-9: After leaving the passing the water station located at Sweeneys Pub runners now make their way back towards Ratoath via the Kilbride Road continuing straight along the road until they reach Glascarn Laneat 8.65 miles. Runners take a left turn onto the lane and meander along this road where they will pass another water station at 9.50 miles. Runners continue along the lane until they reach the T-Junction just outside the village of Ratoath and turn left back in the direction of Fairyhouse at 10.25 miles. 

Glascarn Lane – is part of an historical Bridle Path (walking route) that led British soldiers to/from Fairyhouse to the village of Ratoath in the early 20th century

Mile 10-11: Runners now head for home and make their way towards Fairyhouse. Runners will turn into Fairyhouse via the main entrance at 11.30 miles where there will also be another water station located. 

Mile 11-13: Runners now inside the confines of the venue will make their way towards the race track completing a full circuit of the famous racecourse (on the tarmac ambulance track). The final leg of the journey sees the runners make their way into the grandstand where the finish line awaits.

4 water stations around the route @ Mile 3, 6, 9 and 11 - Water also in Spar goodie bag

Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate be sure to have your body fully hydrated before you step on the start line. 





 

MEDICAL: is being provided by the Meath Civil Defence.

Directions :

Getting to Fairyhouse by car


From the North

Follow Motorway (M1) and exit at Junction 10 and then take the signs for slane on the N51. Enter Slane and take the N 2 for Dublin, and proceed for approx 20 miles and at turn right at junction with R155 (signposted Ratoath). Forward over crossroads at Ratoath and Fairyhouse Racecourse is located on the left.


From Dublin

From the City Centre take N3 towards Navan, passing Blanchardstown Shopping Centre on your left. Proceed for approx. 6 miles on the new M3 and take EXIT 5 for Ratoath/Fairyhouse. Follow signs for Fairyhouse, turn right onto R155 and proceed for two miles. Fairyhouse Racecourse is located on the right.


From the West

After Enfield take Motorway (M4) Dublin. At roundabout (signposted M50 Northbound) take first exit to join Motorway (M50). Proceed through toll exiting onto N3 (Cavan/Navan). Proceed forward for approx. 6 miles on the new M3 and take EXIT 5 for Ratoath / Fairyhouse. Follow signs for Fairyhouse, turn right onto R155 and proceed for two miles. Fairyhouse Racecourse is located on the right.


From the South

Take N7 towards Dublin, at Red Cow roundabout take M50 Northbound. Proceed through toll exiting onto N3 (Cavan/Navan). Proceed forward for approx. 6 miles on the new M3 and take EXIT 5 for Ratoath / Fairyhouse. Follow signs for Fairyhouse, turn right onto R155 and proceed for two miles. Fairyhouse Racecourse is located on the right.
