All Ireland Medals for U9 Pairs
Fionn Drummond and Marcus Zaidan travelled to Cork last Saturday to compete in the All Ireland Pairs Competition. On a cold windy morning at Cork I.T. Athletic Track, Marcus and Fionn did the club proud by winning bronze in the ball throw and long jump events. Marcus set a new pb jumping 3.2m in the long jump, while Fionn jumped 3.15m giving them a combined score of 6.35m. The strong wind was very difficult to deal with in the ball throw, Marcus threw +17m and Fionn threw +21m, both good throws considering the difficult conditions. A big thanks to their parents who made the long journey down to Cork and congratulations to Marcus and Fionn on their fine performances.
Race report - Dunshaughlin 10k
Dunshaughlin AC had their 33rd annual 10k race last Saturday. It was my first time at this race and I'd definitely recommend it for next year.
I met up with Keith and Tom and a few locals in the Community Centre beforehand and went over our individual aspirations for the race, pacing and times etc. It was about 14 degrees but windy with light rain on and off.
With 15minutes to go we did a light run out to the start line and chatted to a few people until we were under way. The course wound back to Ratoath up to just past the half way mark. A nice touch was having a race clock at the 5k point. After that we turned right and right again to be met with a few small hills. There were water stations every 2k or so, which were great. I think one of them was unofficial and just setup by a family outside their house! There was lots of people out to cheer us on in the last kilometer and I even managed a sprint finish to overtake three runners in the last 30m.
At the finish line we were offered water, bananas and even strawberries with cream! After a brief chat (it was raining again at this point) we jogged back to the Community Centre to cool down and got some tea/coffee, cakes, sandwiches, fruit etc.
Many thanks to the organizers, excellent job!

Meath Coast 10k
I have been asked by Rehab Care to let you know about their upcoming 10k on Sat June 30th. This is not an AAI licensed event, it is however a fully insured fundraising event on behalf of Rehab. All funds raised will go towards the Sensory Garden appeal for “The Meadows” - a children`s respite home based in Navan. Importantly, this project is not funded from other sources and so relies on funds generated through fundraising events such as this 10k.
Registration for the event can be done online at http://www.meathsports.ie/ communities/meath-coast-10km. html or alternatively on the day at the GAA centre on the Pilltown Road, Bettystown from 9.30am. The Meath Coast run is open to all over the age of 16years and promises to be a fun orientated event.
Local Gardai, Civil Defence, GAA club marshals are all giving their time to ensure that this 10k is a success. There will be a t shirt for all participants, refreshments and a goody bag (both sponsored locally).
So why not put aside the training regime aside for one day, come along and join in the fun at the Meath Coast 10k whilst at the same time helping a deserving local charity.

Leinster Pair's Competition
Congratulations to Fionn Drummond and Marcus Zaidan who competed in the Leinster pair’s competition in Navan on Saturday. Fionn and Marcus competed in the long jump and ball throw, winning silver in the long jump and bronze in the ball throw. Both athletes had personal bests in the long jump, Fionn jumped 3.32m and Marcus jumped 2.99, to give a combined score of 6.31m. Both threw well below their personal best in the ball throw, but still managed to finish third.
They have now qualified in both events for the All Ireland pairs finals which will be held in Cork next Saturday, We wish them the very best of luck.
Leinster Junior Championships
Well done to Eamon Wallace who had a sprint double at the Leinster Junior Championships yesterday winning the 200m in 22.04 sec and the 100m. (still awaiting official electrical timing for this event but likely to be sub 11 sec)

Bohermeen AC: Patrick Bell 5k
Tom, Keith and myself made our way to the quiet village of Bohermeen on Saturday evening for their annual Patrick Bell Memorial 5k road race. We got there in plenty of time to do a warm up before the 7:30pm start. It was still quite warm, probably around 16-17 degrees and very little wind.
The course itself was excellent with hardly any hills. Quite a few of the locals turned out to cheer us on and I'm told one family even made their own water station and handed out cups of water! I found the last 1k or so tough due to the pace but managed to put on a sprint coming up to the finish on the track back at the community centre.
Everyone got a medal for finishing and there was lots of refreshments to be had along with BBQs, live music etc. There was a great family atmosphere with both old and very young taking part. I'm told there was over 800 taking part this year.
Photo is of Tom, Eoin & Keith before the race.
