Raheny 5 Mile

Ratoath a/c had three athletes competing in the Raheny 5 mile road race on Sunday last. Noelle Capewell was an excellent 12th in the F40 category  in 33 mins 35 sec.while Anthony Rice (37.13) and Aidan Barker (37.13) also impressed over a tough course in wet conditions. Great to see such strong performances from our adult section.

North Leinster Schools XC

The ALSAA sports complex hosted the North Leinster schools cross country championships today

Aimee Doherty stamped her authority on the minor girls race right from the gun and ran out a convincing winner by  over 50m. It was great to see her back to her brilliant best. Next up was Tom Kilgannon and Fionn Drummond in the minor boys. Both lads put in fine runs with Tom finishing 5th and Fionn 19th in a high class field

Marcus Clarke showed he is returning to full fitness after a recent injury when finishing just outside of the individual medals in 5th while Matthew Hayes was 18th. Rafael McCaffrey, KevinDat Conway and Matthew Buckley all gave it everything and battled all the way to the finishing line in the intermediate Boys.

Aine O Connor was our lone competitor in the senior girls and after her trademark aggressive start, she finished just outside the medals in 7th. Philip Marron , who had been under the weather with a heavy cold  all week ran a cagey race to secure 5th in the senior boys and ensure qualification for the Leinster school championships next month. Also qualifying for this race was Ciaran Quinn who nailed down the final qualification spot with a tremendous effort over the final circuit

Well done to everyone

West Leinster Schools Cross Country

The West Leinster schools cross country championships were held today (26 January) in the Phoenix Park. Conditions were dry but there was a bitterly cold wind blowing making it challenging for both spectators and athletes.

Alex Hunter finished a very creditable third in the senior boys event. After a slow first lap, Alex  moved to the front and it was not long before Alex, Brian Fay and Daire Finn pulled clear of the remainder of the field. However, with 800m remaining, Brian Fay kicked clear to win by 20m  from Daire Finn and Alex a further 20m back in third.

Ella Healy was another athlete to catch the eye when finishing an excellent 4th in the minor girls. She has re-discovered her old form and is now running better then ever. Oisin Kelly is as tough a competitor as you will find anywhere and he again demonstrated this with another top performance in the junior boys. The school age categories don't suit Oisin but he was right up there from the gun and 23rd represents a fine run when giving away a year to most of his competitors
