Code of Ethics Course Mon 11th July in Tallaght

I just seen that there is a code of ethics course on next month in Tallaght run by South Dublin County Sports Partnership. The next course offered in Meath is in Sept so if anyone is interested in helping out this is a course that everyone working with juveniles needs to do at some stage. Better sooner than later. If you can take it on board to get yourself on the course we'll refund the €15 cost of the course for anyone actively helping out in the club. The link is www.sdcsp.ie/cms/?page_id=23 or just click on the title above.
Thank you

Medal Collection and Return of Marathon Fundraising Forms Tues 28th June

Hi All,
There's no Track Training on this Tues 28th June other than Gerry's Training group at 7:30 and the Fit4Life at 8pm. Aiming to return Tues 16th Aug in preparation for the Meath Juvenile Mile Challenge on Sun 4th Sept being held on the Club Track, and the Cross Country Season :-).

However for those athletes who were not able to come down to the Club Championship Night you can pick up your Club Medal for all your effort in training from Peter, Siobheal or Marie at the track from 7:30pm.
Can anyone who has a Marathon Fundraising form could they bring them back this Tues from 7:30 also. On the night we had 149 Athletes each completing the lap of the track bringing 149 x 400m= 59600m well in excess of the 42195m full marathon distance.

We have approx 300 photos from the club night and we're working on creating a web based album the link to which will be forwarded to you via text or email.

Myself and Eoin will be working to keep updating the site with events of interest so keep checking in to see what's new.

I'm forwarding you all on a message from Fingal Orienteering Club re an event next Sat. I've gone orienteering with the family before and highly recommend it to everyone.

Fingal Orienteering Club …

…Invites you to a ‘Come and Try It’ Orienteering Event in Dalgan Park, on Saturday the 2nd of July.

Dalgan Park is home to the Columban Fathers and is approx three miles south of Navan on the old N3 (R161), at Garlow Cross, Grid Ref N903 632. Dalgan is a working farm, with river walks along the Boyne, open fields (with some restrictions due to livestock) and a small area of forest.

Two courses will be available, short and long. The short course will be buggy friendly and suitable for young children. Starting times are between 11am and 1pm, with prizes for juniors on all courses. There will be one prize for seniors on the long course only.

For further details please call Kathryn Walley @ 0872475321 or Tommy Burke @ 0861662871. We would appreciate if you could let us know if you plan to bring a large group, to ensure we have enough maps for everyone.

Orienteering is an exciting family sport, suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. If you haven’t tried it, this is your opportunity…….

Club Championship Review

This was the 2nd running of the Ratoath AC championships and in spite of the weather threatening to derail proceedings a great night of competition and camaraderie was had. All our young athletes gave 100% effort in each of the races which was great to see. The parents races were among the most hotly contested and I can see people thinking about getting into training in preparation for next year :)

Our Club Marathon Fundraiser brought a smile to everyone especially when our youngest athletes proudly ran up the finishing straight with their Olympic Torches held high. Thank you to everyone who brought back their sponsorship cards it is through your efforts that we have and can maintain this fine facility of ours. We're still hoping to get more of the sponsorship cards back and if you have one you can bring it to the track next Tues 28th at our training session for the Gerry's track athletes at 7:30pm.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the evening run so well, Vinny Donnelly for his excellent work on the PA, Peter Doherty for sourcing our new club medals and to MMI Group for part funding the molding costs of them, Rene Pierce, from Kraft Foods, and her family for sourcing and packing all the goodie bags given out, Marie Cantwell for designing and organising the Marathon Forms and along with Siobheal Cummins and Eileen Sheeran getting the signing in done as rapidly as possible. To all of the race and long-jump officials, and Phil recording the results, who kept proceedings moving even to the point of brushing water off the long-jump run up a special word of thanks.
Well done again to all our young athletes.

More Success at Leinster Championships

Both Deirdre Healy and Eamon Wallace won Leinster AAI track titles over the weekend.
Deirdre Healy was never headed in the girls u 15 800m as she put on a tremendous display of front running leading from gun to tape.
Eamon Wallace powered his way round the bend in both the heat and final of the u 18 200m and won going away in the final with a sub 23 second time (Still awating official times from Athletics Leinster but Colm Keogh’s club record of 22.9 sec looks under serious threat). Ciaran McCarthy also ran superbly and is getting better with every race but was just outside the medals when he finished fourth in the boys u 15 800m.
Well done to all!

Update:

Official results from Leinster Championships, confirm that Eamon Wallace broke the club senior mens 200m record when winning the Leinster u 18 title in a time of 22.3 sec (Electronic timing).
Well done Eamon!!

Trim Braveheart Trail Run Report

A big thanks to all in Trim AC and all their Volunteers for a great race in the Braveheart Trail Run 5km. The sun shone on this tough run up and down the grass trails around the wonderful porchfields, (this area is a great resourse for all the residents of Trim). Monica, Una, Anna, Ray, Denis and Tom took up the challenge of William Wallace and "got off the sofa" and ran. There was plenty of Tea, Coffee, sandwiches, cakes, biscuits etc afterwards and a small picnic was had as we remembered those climbs and vowed that next year we'd visit Trim before the race and maybe run up and down them a fewtimes :)

Important notice re Membership and Club Championships

There are no more new Juvenile members Under 13 and younger being taken from now. We have our club championships taking place on Tues 21st June and only Registered Members are permitted to participate. We will have a list of registered members on the night and if your athlete is not on the list then they cannot compete. This is only fair on all those athletes who have registered and have being participating in the club throughout the year.
Thank you

800m women's club record

Deirdre Healy broke the club senior women's record when finishing 6th in the All Ireland schools junior girls 800m last weekned in a time of 2 mins 22.1 sec.
This represents fantastic running for a fourteen year old athlete especially after an opening first lap of 65-66 seconds. Well done Deirdre!
The previous club record was 2:29, which was also held by Deirdre!

Women's Mini Marathon

It's the June Bank holiday weekend and that means it's Women's Mini Marathon Time. Good luck to everyone in Ratoath taking part this Monday. Hopefully we'll persuade someone to write up a report on the occasion, the causes and emotion of the event which is the largest of it's kind in the world. email me at ratoathathletics@gmail.com

B Championships Cushinstown

Hi All,
A great evening was had in Cushinstown last Friday at the B Championships the sun shone and we had over 20 athletes taking part who all represented Ratoath AC with distinction. We had a great number of medal winners and very fine performances by all the athletes there. I'm hoping that we will get a definitive list soon from the organisers after the bank holiday as I was helping out at the longjump and couldn't keep track of all the other events. Thank you to everybody who turned up and helped make the evening so memorable.
