St. Patrick's Day Parade Report.

Well it rained on us again this St. Patrick's Day but that didn't dampen the spirits of the hardy souls who joined us in marching down the Main Street of Ratoath. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Meath Primary Schools Cross Country Report from Sineád Drummond

We had a very enjoyable day, 48 students from Rathbeggan NS traveled to the primary schools’ cross country competition in Fr.Murphy's AC , Athboy, with many of the children competing for the first time in a cross country competition. It was well organized with a large turnout of up to 100 kids in each race. The track was very clearly laid out and the ground was in perfect condition, not a muddy puddle in sight, and thankfully the rain held off.
The boys and girls did themselves, their school and club very proud. The school had 8th kids in each race with all the students finishing their races and placing very well, all thanks to their Operation Transformation “Hero Teacher”, Ms. Mary Devine. She organized a cross-country league in the school over the last few months, keeping the kids very fit and able. (Special thanks to Ratoath AC coaches Gerry and Tom for coming to the school as guest race starters for Rathbeggans league final last month)

The first race of the day was the girls of 1st and 2nd class 400mtrs with Ratoath AC club new member Sarah Maher coming in 31st, Jasmine Murray doing very well also. The Boys of 1st & 2nd class 400mtrs had no Rataoth AC athlete in this race, but Rathbeggan’s Ronán Byrne (2nd class) came in 5th place. Next was the Girls 3rd & 4th class 600mtrs, with Orla Hayes (4th class) putting in a great race, coming in 5th. Caroline Murphy (3rd class) showing great heart in finishing well.
In the Boys 3rd & 4th - 600mtrs, Fionn Drummond (3rd class) ran a very strong race, coming in 11th and was Rathbeggans 1st boy home. Marcus Zaidan (3rd class) showing well for his first time in a cross-country race.
The 3rd & 4th class boys team came 3rd overall in the competition.

The older races had some very strong contenders
Girls 5th & 6th class - 800mtrs with Rathbeggan’s 1st home, Julie Crowe coming in 17th
Boys 5th & 6th class - 800mtrs had new club member Michael McHugh (6th class) 20th,and Kritsada Cooke 5th Class also finishing well.
The children all enjoyed the experience and a big thank you to Mr.Rushe and Ms.Devine for making the effort in bringing the school to the competition.

St.Pauls N.S 5th and 6th class also traveled to Athboy. Club members Rachael Doherty, Zara Kane, Emma McCamley, Harry Haskins, and Harry Bailey all competed for St. Paul's in the 5th and 6th class race over 800m with over 100 runners in the race. Well done to them all.

Saturday
On Saturday Orla Hayes, Emma Coroner, Kate Smith, Mark O’ Reilly, Karen Hayes, Shauna Coffey, John Redmond, Kritsada Cooke and Lara Power made the trip to Athlone. The competition this year was of a very high standard with big numbers entered in all the events. John Redmond and Lara Power competed in the u13 shot putt, John threw 7.99m, finishing 5th overall, while Lara threw 7.80m and finished 9th overall, a good result for their first Leinster competition. Shauna Coffey and Karen Hayes competed in the girls U13 600m, Karen was unlucky not to make the final finishing 4th in the heat, while Shauna finished 7th, Shauna also competed in the high jump, jumping 1.15m finishing 8th. The hurdlers were up next with Orla Hayes, Kate Smith and Emma Coroner competing in the girls u12 60m hurdles, Orla was unlucky not to make the final after finishing 2nd in her heat, her heat was re ran again due to timing problems and she finished 4th in the re-run. Kate ran well but did not make the final; Emma Coroner qualified for the final, but unfortunately missed it. The two performances of the day came from Matthew Buckley and Kritsada Cooke, Matthew qualified easily in his heat of the u12 Boys 60m hurdles, and put in a great run in the final finishing 2nd in a time of 10.64 earning him his first Leinster medal. Kritsada Cooke only managed to qualify for the boys U13 60m hurdles as a fastest loser, but put in a storming run in the final to finish 3rd  in a time of 10.64s, this was also Kritsada’s first Leinster medal. Kritsada also competed in the high jump, and jumped 1.25m finishing 8th. Mark O’ Reilly also competed in the boys U13 Hurdles and put in a good run.
A big thank you thanks to Kieran Walshe and Richie Smith who helped out on the day.

Training limit reached for indoors

Hi all,
Sorry but we have reached the limit of kids we can train in the school hall this year. Even today we got more calls from parents asking if their kids could start, but we are limited due to the number of coaches and space we have. We do have to keep safety our first priority.
Hope you understand.

Thanks.

Weekend Fit4Life racing

Well done to all who complete the various races this weekend.  We had members competing the Debra Ireland Half Marathon, the Garristown 10K and the Meath Half Marathon & 5K races!

Bohermeen 5K
The F4L group continues to go from strength to strength and again there was a decent Ratoath AC contingent taking part in the 5K, Una Simpson was first Ratoath lady home in 21.57 and was followed shortly after with another PB by Claire Witter 24.31, Jacinta Forde 25.18, Bernie Roche on her first 5K posted a very respectable 25.34, followed by Kate O'Driscoll 26.26 and the ever improving Joy Tyrrell 30.03.  Great work ladies keep up the good work and we are sure those times will be beaten next time out.

Bohermeen (Meath) Half Marathon 03 March 2013:
A picture paints a thousand words and this was certainly the case at the at the end of the Bohermeen (Meath) Half marathon on Sunday, 8 members took part and for many it was their maiden voyage over the distance.  The smiles as they crossed the finish line said it all.  This group has been working very hard over the last number of weeks, months and have been spotted pounding the highways and byways around Ratoath every Saturday morning in their quest to complete this event.  The Ratoath contingent were led home by Michael Kennedy in a time of 1.33.54 and was followed home by Damian Ryan 1:50:15, Alan Donnelly 1:50:34, Jaralath Nally 1:52:31, Monica Reilly 1:58:37, Melissa Dunne 2:00:28, John Coroner 2:02:19 & with only a handful of runs under his belt Hugh Kelly in 2:04:05.  Fantastic running and some super times guys, keep up the good work.

Following their success in Bohermeen Jaralath & Hugh are now looking for like-minded individuals to join them in their quest of completing the Dublin City Marathon in October.

Ratoath AC also provided the Half Marathon with pacers, Keith paced the 1.45:00 group and got round in 1:45:02 whilst the lively Eimear Griffin & Karen Kirrane brought a touch of mardi gras and fun to the event as they guided the 2:15:00 group round in 2:14:30.  Great job guys.

Those in the Pic include (from Left to Right):  Melissa Dunne, Michael Kennedy, Damian Ryan, Jaralath Nally, Hugh Kelly, John Coroner, Alan Donnelly, Eimear Griffin, Karen Kirrane, Kate O'Driscoll, Claire Witter, Bernie Roche, Joy Tyrrell & David Tyrrell.

Many thanks to Bohermeen AC for a great event and post-race refreshments.

Garristown 10K:
Congratulations to Ian Phelan who finished an impressive 3rd place in the Garristown 10K in a time of 37.12 - that was a great time on an undulating course

Debra Ireland Half Marathon:
Henry Fleming had a great run on the very tough Debra Ireland Half marathon, despite picking up an early knock he still produced a great finishing in a time of 2.05
