Race reports - Kildalkey and Dunboyne

The Kildalkey 5 mile race was hosted by Fr Murphy's AC on St Patrick's day. It was good weather for it and there was a good turnout. It was a pretty flat course, some of which winded through the local bog on a trail and the last couple of hundred metres went through a housing estate to finish at the community centre. There were 178 finishers and I got an official time of 38:42. I was having stomach issues due to eating lunch a bit late so could have done a lot better. The refreshments afterwards were great and plenty of them. Everyone who registered also got a free high viz vest, much needed on our dark path-less roads! The winner completed the course in just over 26 minutes!

Just yesterday (27th), Dunboyne AC held their 42nd annual 4 mile road race in great weather. Over 750 had registered and more turned up at the last minute to make the numbers swell to just over 1,000 - a record turnout. The course wound through Dunboyne village, out the Maynooth road, back in along Summerhill Road, through the village and some housing estates and back along the Navan Road, (a figure of 8 course) to the finish line. The crowds were a big help cheering us on and with chip timing, goodie bags and t-shirts we got great value for money. My time (unofficially) was 38:42, but bear in mind I was pushing a buggy with two kids in it weighing a total of about 53kg! The lucky kids got to sleep while I was doing all the work! The winner - a member of Clonliffe Harrriers - finished in just over 18 minutes, over 20 seconds ahead of the second placed runner!

Successful and Enjoyable Cross Country Relays

Ratoath AC had a great turnout at this running of the 2010 Meath Cross Country Championships. We had 7 teams of 4 who all ran their very best for their Team and the Club and we as coaches are very proud of them all.
We medaled in the U12 Girls and the U16 boys with the girls winning Silver and the boys Bronze, and congratulations to them for some fine running.
For the other teams most of which came just outside the medals in very strong competition it was a day which they all enjoyed as they pushed themselves to their limits in overcoming the challenges of the 500m course.
Coach Susan Marron decided on the morning to enter the ladies race and ran well over the 3km hilly course, fair play to her.
Above is a picture of the U10 Boys and Girls more pictures from the day to follow.
For those who have want to keep going with the Cross Country running this is a reminder about the Meath Community Games Cross Country Trials which are on on the 20th March in Oldcastle Co.Meath. Details of which are in a post below this one, go check it out...
