The 123.ie National U20 & U23’s Championships 2024

 The 123.ie National U20 & U23’s Championships took place on the 3^rd of August in Tullamore. 

 

Ratoath AC was exceptionally well represented with almost 40 of our club athletes descending on to the Tullamore track for the last time this season. There was an added goal in sight for our U20 athletes and this was to qualify for the U20 European Club Championships. A tough task as a National Championships always draws Irelands top athletes and clubs out to compete. But with our club’s strong team ethics plus a lot of talent and determination, a few PB’s and club/championship records broken for a third year in a row, we are the Irish U20 champions and we will represent Ireland at the European U20 Championships in Portugal on the 21^st and 22^nd of September.

 

This great display of top performances across many events at the championships is showing the thriving junior /senior section within the club, which is fundamentally important in the clubs future and keeping our young adults in athletics. 

 

 Our U20 girls 4 X100m relay team of Enya Silkena, Aisling Stratford, Aisling Stratford, Katie Doherty broke the Championship record in an impressive time of 47.97

Club Records smashed by Eve Money U20 800m. U20 4kg Shot Enya Silkena, U20 Javelin James Kelly PB 33.09 =  his dad’s Club Record, Emmanuel Osas broke the club senior men’s 110m Hurdle record and he also took the U23 National title. Katie Doherty took gold in the U20 100m earning her a PB and a club record. Marcus Clarke was crowned National Champion after his strong run to the finish in the U23 Mens 3K Steeplechase. 

 

As well as many superb efforts put in by all our athletes there is great appreciation and praise due to the immense efforts and teamwork of the coaches, the club committee /administrators, and the parents, without whom our continued success would not be possible.

 

Our focus now turns to the U20 European Club Championships in September and our fundraising committee have been busy organising events: a music bingo night on August 30^th in the Ratoath Inn €50 for a table of 4 with a mammoth raffle.  Please contact ratoathathletics.ie if you would like to purchase a ticket or donate to the raffle.  The Meath Athletics Awards took place on Saturday night in the Ardboyne Hotel in Navan a highly successful evening for Ratoath Athletic club, on the back of an exceptional 2023 fourteen of our athletes received the athletes of the year award in their age category, we were the winners of the Track & Field Indoor, Outdoor and Cross Country Leagues and also best juvenile club at the Track & Field Championships and Best Juvenile & Senior Club at the Cross Country Championships 2023 a superb testament to all the hard work and dedication put in by our athletes, coaches and parents, well done all.

The Awards were presented by Ratoath's very own Ronnie Quigley who recently took up the post as President of Athletics Meath.

Thank you to Meath Athletics for a Special Presentation to our Junior T&F Team for their outstanding performance winning the B finals and representing Meath and Ireland in the European U20 Club Championships in Rome last September. 

 

A lovely night had by all. Our Club Chairman Ronnie Quigley did a fine job as President of Meath Athletics presenting the awards to all the athletes on the night and a huge thank you to Meath Athletics for their time and efforts put into compiling the results and organising the evening and beautiful awards handed out on the night.
