Fones4Life Recycle Club Appeal

After a great start in which club members collected just over 200 mobile phones towards our target of 350 in just a matter of weeks, donations have completed dried up since Christmas. One big effort is urgently required from all our membership to reach our target so please have one last search around the house or your office for your old unused mobiles and lets put them to good use for the club.

Cushinstown Indoor Sports Report

We had a great turnout for the Cushinstown indoor sports at the Weekend with over 30 athletes competing on the day. Our u9 squad got their first taste of competition and made a real impact with great performances in the long jump and 60m sprints with James Kelly, Fionn Heffernan and Charlie O’ Conor placing 1st,2nd and 3rd in both the long jump and 60m sprint, Liam and Conor Walsh also putting in a good performance over 60m.  Katie Doherty had a strong run winning the u9 girls 60m and great running also from Sophie Coroner, Isabel Wallace, Amelia Holland and Molly Moran.
Our 10s girls also featured strongly with Cara O’ Sullivan finishing 2nd in the girls u10 60m, Caoimhe Fitzsimons 4th and Ciara Coroner 5th, good running also from Lauren Fewer. Sophie Quinn finished 3rd in the u11 girls long jump and Laura Kelly finished 4th in the u11 girls 60m final. Harry O’ Connor had a great run to finish 3rd in the boys 60m clocking 9.2s with Eoin Kane also running well in the final. Eabha Toole had a great win in the girls u12 60m with a time of 9.1s and Lili O’ Connor did the double winning the u13 60m and long jump. Emma Coroner took silver in both the girl’s u14 60m and high jump with a great jump of 1.36m, Matthew Buckley got his season off to a great start clocking a new pb in the of 7.76s to win the u14 60m in great style, Ben Toole finished 2nd and Kevin Conway 5th. Darragh Casey had a good run the u15 60m finishing 2nd and in the closest finish of the day Aine Cooney was edged out from gold by 100th of a second finishing 2nd in a time of 8.47s.

North Leinster Schools - 23 Jan 2015

Karen Hayes got things off to a good start with a 10th place finish in the girls minor race. This qualifies her for the Leinsters to be held in Santry on February 11th.. Aine O Connor was another to qualify with a fifth place finish in the girls intermediate after a great tussle with Rose Finnegan for most of the race. Aine was well supported by Lauren Kelly, Katie Lewis, Aoife Reynolds, Jennifer Bradley and Kate Byrne in the team competition. The boys intermediate race was probably the most competitive of the day with Alan Monahan, Paddy Shaw and our own Philip Marron battling it out at the head of proceedings. In the end Philip had to settle for third but this was excellent running against top class competition and augurs well for the rest of his season. Ben Mahon continues to improve and is one to watch out for over the coming track season. Ciaran Crowther (5th) and Ciaran McCarthy (15th) were others to catch the eye in the senior race and both will now go on to contest the Leinsters

West Leinster Schools 21 Jan 2015

The West Leinster schools cross country championships were held in the Phoenix park today. Alex Hunter wasted no time in going to the front and dominated the intermediate boys race, eventually winning by over 200m. On this form, Alex is clearly getting back to his best and will be a strong contender for the Leinster title in ALSAA on the 11th February

Celtic Cross Country & Leinster Juvenile Championships

The Celtic cross country international and Leinster juvenile championships were hosted by Dunboyne A/C on 18th January

First up were the juvenile relays. Our u 12 squad of Aimee Doherty, Sophie Quinn, Ealbha Toole and Laura Kelly almost retained the title Ratoath won last year with another superb run, only being pipped on the line by Thomastown a/c after an enthralling battle from start to finsh. Our under 12 boys quartet of Kyle Witter, Harry O Connor, Eoin Kane and Jamie Fewer were equally impressive and were only pushed out of the medals in the later stages when finishing a close 5th. Adam Quinn, Matthew Buckley, Tom Kilgannon and Oisin Kelly combined to put in a great team effort in the u 14 boys but were edged out of third by Mullingar Hrs in the very last stride.

Deirdre Healy, wearing the green of Ireland, was 6th in the junior womens Celtic international and led the Irish team home where they finished second to a very strong Scotland squad. Spearheaded by Deirdre and Aine O Connor, Niamh Gannon, Kate Byrne, Aoife Reynolds and Jennifer Bradley did the club proud when taking the team club bronze. It was great to see a Ratoath Junior womens team competing in a Leinster championship for the first time since Peter Doherty was a boy. Philip Marron rounded off a good day with a 12th place finish in the Leinster Junior mens race  and helped Meath  capture the team county title.

Well done to Dunboyne a/c officals on a very well organised day of top class athletics

Meath Cross Country Relays

The Meath cross country relays took place at Moyvalley Golf course on December 21st; we had a terrific turnout from the club with 13 teams competing from u10-16. Ten out of our 13 teams came away with medals making it our best championships in recent years. We had 3 girls teams competing in the u10 event, our A team winning gold with our other teams were not far behind in 4th and 6th place. We could only field one u10 boys’ team but they delivered a great performance also taking gold. We had a great turnout and performance from our u12 squad with all four teams taking home medals finishing 2nd and 3rd in both boys and girls events. We had two teams also in the u14 girl’s event, both teams putting in great runs finishing 3rd and 6th. Our u14 boys had a great battle with Dunboyne finishing 2nd in a very tight race. Our u16 girls and boys teams finished off a great day with the girls finishing 3rd and the boys brining home gold.

Thanks to all athletes and parents who turned out on the day so close to Christmas.
