Darkness into Light 5km

Members of Ratoath Fit4Life took part in the Pieta House Darkness into Light 5Km Walk/Run on Saturday 12th May. Pieta House is a non profit organisation that specialises in helping and supporting people who are suicidal or self harming, and Darkness into Light is their main fund raising event. The 5km run/walk commenced at 4am with thousands of participants all wearing bright yellow t-shirts heading off in the darkness. The race which started and finished at the Popes Cross was over a very gentle course, and it was amazing to run around the Phoenix Park in the dark with just the singing of the birds for company. The only hill just outside St Mary's Hospital was worth the effort, as we got to see the dawn rising, as we headed for the finish. It was fabulous to stand in the car park at the end and look back across the 15 acres at a sea of yellow t-shirts all greeting the dawn.

This was a first ever run for some or the Fit4Life athletes and probably one they will never forget. We can't wait for next year, because this was a really special event.
