AAI National Inter-county Championships - Santry Demesne

A small but strong contingent of Ratoath a/c athletes took part in the AAI national inter-county championships held in Santry Demesne on 17 November. There was a terrific atmosphere on the course with a good crowd in attendance and underfoot conditions were mainly dry & near perfect for cross country running despite some heavy over-night rain.

Tom Kilgannon kicked off matters from a Ratoath perspective and ran a strong race in the boys u/12 despite running a year above his age group. Our u/16 boys were next up and our club team of Alex Hunter (15th), Peter Kilgannon (26th), Philip Marron (30th) and Brian Kiernan (115th) finished 6th. They were also part of an exceptionally strong Meath squad that won the county team gold. Ciaran Crowther (Ashbourne a/c), who regularly trains with us, was also on the victorious Meath team. Deirdre Healy rounded off a great day for the club with yet another superb effort in the girls combined u18 / junior race when she finished 9th overall and 5th u/18 athlete. Deirdre is still eligible for the u/17 championships and we wish her and all the other Ratoath athletes well in the uneven age national championships at WIT in December.
