Cross country is a tough event for juvenile athletes and your coaches will be picking athletes to compete whom they feel will be able for the challenge now.  In Dec 16 there will be the cross country relays, a team event where the distances will not be as long and way more athletes will be eligible to be picked. We had a great turn out on the relays last year and would hope for an even bigger number of teams to compete this December.

Star of the Sea Cross Country Report

A team of eight Athletes travelled from the Club to the Annual Star of the Sea Cross Country which was held at Greenanstown,  Stamullen yesterday. In near perfect weather conditions for cross country running our younger athletes got the day off to a great start with Aimee Doherty coming second in the Girls U9 500m race, this was then followed by Fionn Drummond who came first in the boys u9 500m. Aoife Rutherford ran a great race to finish 3rd in the Girls u10 500m and Tom Kilgannon had a tough battle in the boys U10 500m but came out on top taking gold. Nathan O’ Connor running his first cross country put in a good performance in the boys U10 event also.
Karen Hayes also running for the first time in a cross country had a strong run in the Girls U12 1500m finishing 12th. Fergal and Peter Kilgannon had a good run in the Boys U12 1500m and Boys U15 2500mm respectively and this will stand to them for their up and coming Meath Cross Country Events. Thanks to all who travelled yesterday, and thanks to Brendan Meade and Star of the Sea Ac who put on a great event again this year.

Long Slow Run Session for Members this Sat 22 Sept.

New Long Slow Run session (LSR) for Ratoath AC or other Athletic club (AAI members) starting this Saturday morning 22nd Sept.
Note, if you are interested in the shorter distance please email me on ratoathathletics@gmail.com asap and I'll forward it on to Keith who is leading the session.
From Keith---
I have no idea at the moment the levels of interest for a dedicated long run session, so for now the 'hard-core' will be out on Saturday morning for an 18 miler. Please bring/place your own fluids. Feel free to notify other members who maybe interested in joining us.
These sessions are also designed to accommodate runners who are not up to this sort of distance/pace and I will forward details of those sessions once I know there is sufficient interest for example I can forward alternative routes including 5 & 10 mile runs which all start/finish in the same area and go in the same general direction as the longest run.

So to kick-off this weekend….

Confirmed Distance: 18 Miles

Meeting at 7.20am - Run to commence at 7.30am.

Route: Ratoath AC - Kilbride Road - Follow road into Kilbride - Take 1st right after Kilbride GAA (at the Petrol Station)  - follow lane for approximately 2.5 miles, (careful on the road as there are a few bends) take the 2nd right which is situated at a cross roads - this will take you slightly up-hill & past a farm on the left - continue until you come to a T Junction - Turn left (Right will take you back onto the Kilbride Road) for approximately 2.75 miles and this will bring you to the Fairyhouse Road -  Turn Right at T Junction at the Fairyhouse Road towards Ratoath - Take the next left (before Fairyhouse Road) - this is Porterstown lane - At the T junction (old Dublin Road) turn right and run into Rathbeggan - Turn right after the country club and follow road for approximately 3 miles to Donnelly's cross - Turn right into Ratoath passing GAA pitch on the right - continue straight and finish at Ratoath AC
